It is not necessary to exchange money as the US dollar is commonly used in Honduras. We do recommend smaller bills $20, 10 and 5. Although everyone accepts US dollars you may get Lempiras in return. If you do use an ATM for cash it will only be distributed in Lempiras not US dollars.
